Opinion: Irish drivers may need to start thinking differently about electric vehicles

EVENTEEN KILOMETRES. NOT even that. That’s how far the average Irish motorist commutes, one-way, to work. That’s according to the Central Statistics Office. Of course, plenty travel further — especially those living in satellite towns like Drogheda or Newbridge — where a typical one-way trip can be closer to 50km. For those drivers, where public transport either doesn’t serve or can’t be tolerated, even a fairly old electric car should handle the job without breaking a sweat.
