According to a report by The Information, two people with direct knowledge said that DeepSeek is expected to launch its next-generation flagship AI model, codenamed V4, in the coming weeks (around mid-February, near the Lunar New Year). The model is positioned around powerful code generation capabilities.
It is reported that DeepSeek V4 has achieved a key breakthrough in processing and parsing ultra-long code prompts, supporting a million-token context window.
It can ingest an entire mid-sized project’s codebase, technical documentation, and requirements in a single pass, accurately understand cross-file dependencies, and solve the context fragmentation problem in complex software development. This is considered revolutionary for building large systems, refactoring legacy code, and understanding complex technical documents.
V4 also addresses a common challenge in AI training — maintaining data pattern understanding throughout the entire training process without degradation, in contrast to traditional models whose performance declines as training progresses.
This breakthrough enables the model to learn more efficiently from massive datasets, move beyond simple memorization, and develop deeper abstract reasoning capabilities.
Preliminary internal benchmark tests conducted by DeepSeek employees show that the model outperforms Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s GPT series in code generation tasks.
Industry sources also say that V4 may adopt a new mHC architecture, offering better parallel computing efficiency and stronger compatibility with domestic chips. This could reduce deployment costs, improve inference speed, and lay the foundation for large-scale commercial applications.
Notably, on January 4, DeepSeek updated its R1 paper on arXiv, expanding it from 22 pages to 86 pages and adding a full breakdown of the training pipeline along with detailed data from more than 20 evaluation benchmarks. This is widely seen as technical preparation for the V4 release.
