Colombian "música popular" superstar Yeison Jiménez was reported to have tragically passed away in a plane crash on January 10, local time, at the age of 34. The crash occurred near Paipa, Colombia. The news has shocked the local music industry, leaving countless fans grief-stricken and in disbelief.

Colombian aviation accident investigation authorities confirmed that an aircraft with registration number N325FA crashed that day, claiming the lives of all six people on board. The victims included Yeison Jiménez and his manager, Jefferson Osorio. Yeison Jiménez's public relations team has subsequently confirmed the news.
At just 34 years old, Yeison Jiménez was already regarded as a leading figure in the Colombian "música popular" genre. This music style blends elements of Mexican Ranchera with local Colombian culture and is widely loved by the public. In 2024, he reached the pinnacle of his career; not only did he sell out three consecutive concerts at the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, attracting a total audience of over 40,000, but he also set an unprecedented record for a Colombian popular folk singer, establishing a significant milestone for the genre.
Yeison Jiménez was born in Caldas, a famous coffee-producing region in Colombia. This province, along with Quindío, Risaralda, and Tolima, are all important birthplaces of "música popular."
More than 50 years ago, "música popular" was known as "railroad music" or "tavern music." Deeply influenced by regional Mexican music, its foundation was laid by predecessors such as Darío Gómez, Luis Alberto Posada, and El Charrito Negro. Yeison Jiménez frequently mentioned publicly that Darío Gómez was the person who influenced him the most. Even when the musical style was once overlooked by the mainstream market, he persisted and carved out a path of his own.
